At the Police Court on Tuesday morning, E Cleaver and G Wilson were charged with riotous behavior in Auckland Street. The former was fined 5s and the latter 2s 6d. Arthur Whitehouse, of Candelo, on remand from Saturday, was charged with being on unsound mind. Dr Evershed deposed that he considered Whitehouse to be of unsound mind and unfit to be at large. He was under a delusion that certain people were trying to injure him. He was disposed to be violent. Dr Marshall also gave evidence stating that he considered Whitehouse to be of unsound mind, and unfit to be at large. He did not consider Whitehouse was disposed to be violent, found him very quiet, but incoherent and disjointed in his speech. Alice Whitehouse, a feeble old woman, mother of defendant, deposed that he had never right in his head since he received a sunstroke three months ago. She was afraid of him, and did not consider he was fit to be at large. He struck her with a brush and made a mark on her wrist. The Bench ordered Whitehouse to be sent to the Gladesville Asylum for the Insane.
