CRIMINAL.
——

…
In the case of Daniel Crosby, an elderly man, who was charged with lewdness, the jury convicted, with a recommendation to mercy. They suggested that the prisoner should be sent to a home, but his Honor said he had no power to make an order to that effect. The only thing he could do was to send him to gaol. The sentence was six months’ imprisonment in the Long Bay Penitentiary.

QUARTER SESSIONS.
(Before Judge Bevan.)

    Mr CA White, Crown Prosecutor.
…

OLD MAN SENTENCED.

Daniel Crosby, aged 63, was convicted by the jury of an offence at Woollahra, on March 19. The jury recommended him to mercy, and asked that if possible the prisoner be sent to a home instead of a gaol. His Honor said he was sorry he had no power to send the prisoner to a home. Drink was the cause of this blemish on an otherwise reputable career. He sentenced Crosby to six months’ hard labour in the State Penitentiary.
