DRINK AGAIN.

Peter Robertson (57) was charged with assaulting a lad at Lithgow on the 2nd of March. He pleaded guilty, stating that he was drunk and “silly” at the time.

Robertson was latter called up for sentence. He had been convicted before. He was convicted, it transpired, at Adelaide in 1912, for being an idle and disorderly person, and had been fined at Lithgow for drunkenness and indecency.

His Honor stated that the prisoner, it seemed, was drunk at the time he assaulted the lad, whose name was mentioned, [John Robson, 14], in the indictment. Having been drunk he was not responsible perhaps for his actions—not fully responsible. He appeared to have been living at the time as a vagrant (camping under a rock) and spending all the money he earned in drink.

The prisoner was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labor in Bathurst gaol.
