BREADCARTER
ACQUITTED
———
An unsavory [sic] case at the Parramatta Quarter Sessions, [before Judge Laurens FM Armstrong] on Monday was that in which Ernest George Collett, [51], breadcarter, was charged with having committed a serious offence, [indecent assault], against a boy.
The offence was alleged to have been committed at Toongabbie, where the boy resides, on January 27.
Mr BV Stacy prosecuted for the Crown. Mr WR Dovey (instructed by Mr HW Shephard) appeared for the accused, who pleaded not guilty.
The boy [Mervyn Clarence Stanbury, 13] described the alleged offence at Toongabbie; also offences which he alleged occurred at Collett’s home and in an outhouse at Granger’s bakery.
In a statement from the dock, the accused said, “The boy’s statements are untrue, and I am innocent.”
The jury found the accused not guilty, and he was discharged.
