INDECENT ASSAULT.

Phillip Crabb, an elderly man, pleaded not guilty to a charge of indecently assaulting a lad [Walter Langley] about 6 years of age in Prince Alfred Park, in broad daylight, on July 22. Evidence was given by the mother of the child, who came up and rescued her son. She boxed accused soundly on the ears, and gave information to the police. The jury brought in a verdict of guilty. His Honor said that the mother deserved everybody’s thanks for her action, and he hoped it would be a warning to other frequenters of parks who tampered with little children. As it was prisoner’s first offence he sentenced him to 12 months’ imprisonment with hard labour.
