ASSAULT.

Anthony Mann, 29, smallgoods man, was charged on two counts of having committed indecent assaults on two boys, [Thomas Frederick John Bevan and John Hinkley], at St Peters on some day in April and some day in June. He was alternately charged with common assault.

Mr ER Abigail appeared for the accused, who pleaded guilty to common assault. Mr Abigail pleaded for leniency and asked that his client be bound over. His Honor said that that kind of assault upon little children was very horrible, and so much of it was going on, that he could not see his way to release the prisoner. It was not so much the punishment of the prisoner as to let others know that they could not offend with impunity. The prisoner was sentenced to six months’ hard labour.
