FALSE DECLARATION.
———◦———

At the Central Summons Court yesterday William James Brown [aka William James Browne], of Glebe-street, Glebe, was charged with having wilfully made a false declaration with the object of obtaining an old-age certificate. Constable Travers gave evidence that defendant was convicted of being drunk and disorderly in George-street West on January 9, 1903. For the defence it was stated by Brown that he had made an application for an old-age pension some time ago. He could not remember if he was asked the question, the answer to which were given in the application. He was, he said, in total ignorance of making any false statement. The Bench found against the defendant, and sentenced him to one month’s hard labour. It was stated that Brown had previously had a pension at Parramatta, which was cancelled for drinking.
